Changes to the operation of Division A & B from 2023
The Committee discussed the options of retaining the Division A and Division B groupings for awarding prizes at Society events or change to a 1st, 2nd, 3rd format. The Committee agreed to adopt the 1st, 2nd, 3rd format for Society events for those events which attracted 16 playing members or less and to add a 4th prize at those events which attracted more than 16 playing members.
The Committee further agreed to retain the current Division A and Division B format for the annual trophies. However, because the number of Division A members attending events had been much less than Division B, the Committee agreed to change the Handicap Indexx (HI) at which the Division A/B split is made to level up the 2 divisions. The new HI split number will be calculated by taking the median point of the 55 members who played in at least one golfing fixture in 2022 together with the new members who have not yet had an opportunity to play as a member. These members would be deemed “The HI Group”. The division threshold should be finalised in March before the first event at Swinley. Each member will be allocated to either Division A or B on the basis of the HI written on their card at the first event they enter - this will avoid the need to try and get the information from every member prior to Swinley and they can only start to accrue points once they have entered an event. Members will remain in that allocated division for the rest of the year irrespective of any HI changes during the year.
