Captain's Report

The display of rhododendrons was majestic and the course was in first class condition for our outing to this, one of our more testing venues. The staff were welcoming and efficient with the starter on hand to raise the flag for us, albeit some declared it to be upside down.

My thanks must go to Andy Sweetman who stood in for our Secretary - Tom was away sampling the delights of Portugal with his family. Andy organised the 19 of us (including three guests) in good order and produced results at the end of the rounds with commendable speed.

Some good golf was played by many of those who managed to keep out of the heather, although it must be said in all fairness that the heather had been pruned down to a level where the ball was easier to find if not to extricate.

As usual lunch was a delight and timed so that the afternoon round, starting at the 6th. was not a rushed affair.

As for the results, the Shell Mex & BP Challenge Cup was won by Anthony King on 36 points with John Blaymires second and Ian Howick (a guest soon to become a member) in third place. The afternoon competition was played for the magnificent Jubilee Challenge Trophy (a refugee from the defunct Berkshire meeting). Simon Paterson and Mike Scanlon came in with 30 points beating John Blaymires and Phil O’Dell by 2 points.
