Justin Rose’s home course is a gem and once again attracted a large turnout. However coincidentally the Club was hosting the wake of life-long member and Royal Navy D-day veteran Norman Bartlett, who had passed away the previous month and we were thus limited to 24 players. Nevertheless, the Club looked after us royally and by way of compensation we enjoyed an excellent 3-course lunch in the Justin Rose Room.
The dry conditions from which we had benefitted at Swinley continued and as a consequence of that and the recently completed bunker renovation programme, the course was in fabulous conditions with the greens running fast. Once again this was reflected in the excellent scoring.
In the afternoon's Greensomes over 9 holes, the runners-up were Lizzie O'Dell and Pauline Senior, with 18 points, but Nick Butler and Ian Howick took first prize with their score of 20 points.
In the morning, Pauline Senior retained the Bernard Frost trophy with an excellent score of 36 points. Ian Robinson was the winner of the Flight Trophy with a magnificent 40 points off his handicap of 6.0.
Next year we should not need to limit numbers and so we hope that more of us will able to enjoy this excellent venue.
